PREECEVILLE, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Health Authority has issued a do not swim advisory for the public beach at Annie Laurie Lake near Preeceville after testing detected elevated levels of E. coli bacteria in the water.
In a notice dated Aug. 24, public health inspector Verna Law said water contamination means the safety of swimmers cannot be guaranteed at all times.
The advisory requires the Town of Preeceville to notify beach users of the risk and ensure warning signs remain posted until the advisory is lifted. The Saskatchewan Health Authority said signs should be placed at beach entrances and other visible locations around the site.
According to the notice, the advisory will remain in effect until water samples show E. coli levels have returned to an acceptable range.
E. coli is commonly used as an indicator of water quality and can signal contamination that may pose health risks to swimmers.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority said beach users should avoid swimming at Annie Laurie Lake while the advisory remains in place.
The advisory applies specifically to the public beach area and will be reviewed once additional water testing has been completed.
