INVERMAY, SASK.- “I am thrilled to be joining the team at Invermay School this year.”
The new school year is a time of new possibilities, and for the students at Invermay School, that includes welcoming their new teacher, Deeksha Goswami.
“I was born and raised in a vibrant town in the state of Punjab, India,” said Goswami, adding that, for as long as she can remember, she’s been drawn to just about any activity where creativity is involved, including “art, crafts, painting, and working with vibrant colors, which I definitely inherited from my creative mother! I was also a naturally curious kid who loved learning new things and trying to solve mysteries or puzzles.”
Goswami said teaching runs deep in her family, as she grew up “surrounded by educators, lawyers, and judges. I truly credit my parents for shaping who I am today – I inherited my creative side from my mother, and my father passed down his integrity, wisdom, and lifelong devotion to teaching as a school principal. Watching his lifelong dedication to educating children showed me the true impact a teacher can have. Being in that environment naturally instilled strong values of fairness, dedication, and service in me from an early age.”
It quickly becomes apparent that she is dedicated to continuing education.
“I attended high school in a neighboring town in Punjab state. Following high school, I earned a bachelor of science, a master of science in physics, and a bachelor of education. I have also continued taking university coursework here in Saskatchewan to expand my teaching practice.”
Goswami taught in India for several years, and then, after moving to Canada, taught at Wynyard Elementary School during the past year before taking on the Invermay School position.
“I am the Grade 3/4/5 homeroom teacher, and I will also be teaching subjects across Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6.”
Her enjoyment of teaching comes largely from watching students blossom.
“For me, teaching is all about the magic that happens when a child feels seen, valued, and excited to learn. I genuinely adore working with kids. There is nothing more rewarding than taking a complex idea and turning it into an engaging, hands-on discovery where a student's eyes light up with that ‘aha!’ moment. Building those meaningful connections and helping students discover their strengths is what brings me joy every single day.
“My hope for this school year is to build a warm, inclusive classroom community where every single student feels safe to take creative risks, asks big questions, and support one another. I want my classroom to be a place where learning feels like an exciting adventure, where mistakes are welcomed as part of growing, and where each student feels confident in who they are.”
With her new residence located in Wadena, Goswami will be commuting to Invermay for school.
“Everyone in the school community and surrounding area has been exceptionally warm, welcoming, and supportive as I settle in. It already feels like a wonderful community to be a part of.”
Stemming from the enjoyment she has in her work, Goswami often finds herself thinking about her students outside regular work hours.
“When I'm not in the classroom, I'm usually still brainstorming fun new activities or crafts and looking for new things and concepts for my students.
“Outside of school preparation, I love spending time with my husband, going on long drives, trying new things, going shopping (I've recently become a big Costco fan!), and unwinding with a good mystery or thriller show.
Goswami is married to Suraj Sharma, and they will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary this year.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to join Invermay School and look forward to getting to know all the wonderful students, families, and community members in the year ahead!”
