YORKTON, Sask. — Local artisans, makers, food vendors and small businesses will gather at the Gallagher Centre this week for the Yorkton Sunflower Art & Craft Market.
The Yorkton Arts Council's Sunflower Art & Craft Market traces its roots back to 1979, making this year's event one of the longest-running arts and crafts markets in Saskatchewan.
The two-day indoor market runs Sept. 11 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a wide range of handmade, homemade and locally made products.
Shoppers can expect everything from artisan crafts and home décor to jewelry, fashion, bath and body products, candles, specialty foods, baked goods, artwork and photography. Local businesses and food vendors will also be taking part.
Among the vendors is Yorkton-based Holmes Made Gourmet Cookies, which will be offering a variety of stuffed and specialty cookies, including new flavours and customer favourites.
Sunflowers are also appearing throughout the city as businesses and residents embrace the market theme. The Yorkton Business Improvement District has encouraged downtown businesses to create sunflower-inspired window displays, helping add to the festive atmosphere surrounding the annual market.
The market is a celebration of creativity, community and local talent while providing residents with an opportunity to support local entrepreneurs, artists and producers.
Hosted by the Yorkton Arts Council, the annual event has become a longstanding fall tradition, drawing visitors from across the region to browse unique handmade goods and connect with local makers.
