PREECEVILLE, Sask. — The 2026 Museum season has come to a close, stated Agnes Murrin, chairperson.
“The season began on a very warm, dry day for our open house in May. The homemade donuts were a big hit. Then the monsoon rains came, and the hordes of mosquitoes. Because of this, we had to move our Old Home Week-Chili and Homemade Bread Day inside; I think a lot of people enjoyed the brief respite from swatting the peaky bugs. Food was still all homemade, and Jerry Steciuk’s music was toe-tapping. Kaiden Bourassa, our summer curator, did a great job of keeping the museum open to visitors. We had our annual hamburger sale at the Main Street Market in August, and Sept.4 was our close with homemade pie and coffee.
"Homemade pie is certainly something everyone enjoys. We did use the clay oven to make bread and cinnamon buns. It was a challenge to work around the wind and the rain. We have had repairing the clay oven on our work plans for a few years as cracks were appearing. This month we got straw and clay and got to play in the mud. We reclayed the whole outside of the oven and any visible cracks on the inside. Hopefully, if we got the consistency right, the clay oven will be good for another decade. As in other years, the community has been very generous with support, donations and artifacts – we received business memorabilia, Mushers buttons, maps, books, hats, a Ukrainian wedding cake top, luncheon cloths, easel, clocks, wedding dresses, and one of my favourites – an ashtray with the stand being hockey sticks with the players from 1939-1942.
"Everything is part of the history of the community. We are still looking for more Mushers Rendezvous buttons – hope to have one for every year the event ran. Also, past school yearbooks, as these are popular with our visitors. If anyone has items to donate, please contact one of the board members or myself at 306-547-3047. We are grateful to the community-your support keeps the museum open and welcoming to Preeceville and its visitors each summer," concluded Murrin.
