KAMSACK, Sask. — Kamsack town council is still waiting for a final PDAP (Provincial Disaster Assistance Program) report regarding the flooding in early July.
The matter was discussed at the Sept. 14 regular council meeting.
Town administrator Barry Hvidston said a big concern is the creek that crosses under Third Avenue North, where the flooding has left a water line exposed and winter is coming.
He explained that work cannot be undertaken until that report is received because if it is not done the way the PDAP report requires it to be done the community might get limited or no funding.
“We have to wait and see.”
Related to the flooding damage, the Department of Highways indicated it wants to replace a culvert on Highway 8 North with two large culverts and wants an easement from council in order to proceed, he said. But council is concerned that the water flow could damage the roads downstream where a bottleneck existed at the flooding.
“We’re in discussions with the department,” Hvidston said.
