Saskatchewan is about to get a first look at one of Canada’s biggest club curling championships.
Curling Canada has announced that Swift Current will host the 2027 Canadian Curling Club Championships, marking the first time the national event has been held in Saskatchewan.
The championship runs November 23rd to 28th at the Swift Current Curling Club inside the InnovationPlex and will bring the best men’s and women’s club teams from across the country to southwest Saskatchewan.
For Swift Current, it’s another opportunity to showcase a city with a long history of hosting major curling events.
The city most recently welcomed the 2023 Canadian Mixed Championship, where hometown skip Shaun Meachem and his rink captured the national title. Swift Current has also hosted the World Women’s Curling Championship twice, in 2010 and 2016, along with several other Canadian championships.
But the 2027 event could also provide a chance for Saskatchewan to end a long drought at the Canadian Curling Club Championships.
No Saskatchewan women’s team has ever won the national title.
On the men’s side, Saskatchewan’s last championship came in 2014, when Kory Kohuch’s Saskatoon rink captured gold. Darren Camm also led a Saskatoon team to the title in 2010.
