YORKTON, Sask. — Yorkton residents have one final chance to add their own creative touch to a community art project celebrating individuality and diversity.
Arts Guild Yorkton is inviting people of all ages to create and submit an artistic “selfie” by Sept. 30 for its Express Your SELFIE! community art initiative.
Participants are encouraged to design a self-portrait using any materials they have on hand, from paint, markers and crayons to recycled items such as cardboard, bottle caps, tissue paper and egg cartons. The goal is to create a unique work that reflects their personality and experiences.
The completed pieces will be combined into a large public art display at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery.
The project encourages participants to express their individuality while celebrating the diversity within the community.
Templates for the project are available at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery, and organizers have also offered a self-guided creation station where participants could work on their designs using a limited supply of materials.
While the activity can be completed at home, school, workplaces, clubhouses or community organizations, finished artworks must be returned to the gallery.
The Express Your SELFIE! exhibition will be displayed at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery from Oct. 1 to 3, with viewing hours from 1 to 5 p.m. daily.
The free project is organized by Arts Guild Yorkton, which works to connect aspiring, emerging and established artists in the region while encouraging collaboration and creativity within the local arts community.
For those still hoping to take part, Sept. 30 is the final opportunity to pick up materials and submit a “selfie” before the exhibition opens Oct. 1.
