The Humboldt Broncos spoiled the Melville Millionaires’ night on Friday, picking up a 3-1 victory at home at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
Leo Seitz, one of three players recently acquired by Humboldt from Flin Flon, scored the eventual game-winner and added an assist in his first game with his new club.
Connor Miller, who was part of the original deal before returning to Humboldt in the off-season, also chipped in with a pair of points for the Broncos.
Brady Holtvogt continued his strong start since returning to the SJHL from the WHL, turning aside 36 shots to earn his second straight victory.
For Melville, Kaleb Page made the start in goal stopping 36 of 38 shots, while Kale Margolis scored the Millionaires’ lone goal.
Elsewhere, Flin Flon picked up a 4-1 win over Estevan, getting a goal and an assist from Rhett Ewen and 30 saves from Finn Werner. Werner has surrendered just one goal over his last 126 minutes.
Warman remains atop the SJHL standings despite a 6-5 shootout loss to Melfort. The Wolverines erased a four-goal deficit in the third period to force overtime and secure a point. Dru Mushumanski led the Mustangs with five points, while Trey Markus had two for Warman. Luke MacKenzie scored the only shootout goal.
Kindersley rolled past Battlefords 5-2, led by two goals from Cam Perlinger. Pryce Thiessen, Charlie Kay and Dylan McCann each had multi-point games.
And in Weyburn, the Nipawin Hawks beat the Wings 5-2 in a rematch of last season’s opening-round playoff series. Nipawin scored three times in the first period, while Mason Karkochuk, Will Whitter, Mason Lowther, Jack Janzen and Austin Mori-Goodman found the net. Connor Johnson made 33 saves in the win.
