The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Sunday they've released kicker Dawson Hodge.
The decision comes after veteran Brett Lauther was reacquired from the Ottawa Redblacks last Friday and following Hodge's 2-for-4 performance against the Calgary Stampeders in a 37-31 loss on Friday night.
Hodge was signed by the Riders on Aug. 6 as a safeguard for rookie kicker Alex Hale, who was mired in consistency issues.
The 24-year-old Coquitlam, B.C., native was called into duty for the Banjo Bowl after Hale was booed by Riders fans after a missed field goal in the Labour Day Classic.
Hodge went 2-for-2 in Winnipeg and scored Saskatchewan's only points in a loss. He followed that up with a 3-for-3 showing in Vancouver against the B.C. Lions, another defeat.
However, the two missed field goals Hodge had at home against Calgary were costly.
They came from 53 and 45 yards in the second quarter and prevented the Riders from potentially closing the gap to 17-16 before the half.
