REGINA, Sask. – Candace Rae from Alsask has become Saskatchewan’s newest millionaire, winning the grand prize of $1 million in the Roughrider & Children’s Hospital Foundations Lottery, championed by The Mosaic Company.
“One of the reasons I support the children's hospital is because my middle son was born with Ameloblastoma, and we spent quite a bit of time in the children's hospital in Alberta,” Rae said in a news release from the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation. “So, when I moved to Saskatchewan, and I saw that they were building a children's hospital, I really wanted to support it.”
The Roughrider & Children’s Hospital Foundations Lottery offered over 1,000 prizes worth over $2 million, over 300 cash prizes and for the first time there were 10 grand prizes, including the top grand prize of $1 million cash, said the foundation.
The Halftime 50/50 reached a jackpot $1,056,075. The lucky winners, John and Toni Fiest from Coleville, who took home half, were excited.
“We donate because my dream has always been to help children that need help,” said Toni.
“When Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital opened, I wanted to talk to them about volunteering when I am in Saskatoon enough. Whether I help feed a child, or whether I read to children, or do a craft with them, or just sit with them or their parents. That's what I wanted to do.”
“We are thrilled to announce Saskatchewan newest millionaire. Congratulations to all the winners from this year’s Roughrider and Children’s Hospital Foundations Lottery," said Troy Davies, CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
“Every person who purchased a ticket is helping children and families across our province thrive. From specialized equipment and research to education and mental health programs, your support ensures the whole child is cared for. Thank you for your generosity.”
"Congratulations to all our lucky winners, and a huge Rider Nation thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket in support of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation lottery,” said Cindy Fuchs, executive director of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation.
“A special thank you to Mosaic for championing this partnership and helping make a difference for Saskatchewan kids. Every ticket supports our free mental health and literacy programs, bringing Roughrider players into classrooms across the province to inspire students and support teachers. Together, we are building confidence, encouraging a love of reading and helping young people realize their potential. We are proud to work alongside Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation and our partners to build a healthier, happier and more resilient Saskatchewan, one ticket and one kid at a time,”
