The Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association is entering an exciting new chapter with a planned leadership transition that reflects both continuity and growth. Following several years of strengthened advocacy and renewed strategic focus, Darcy Pawlik has stepped down as Executive Director, with Kaitlyn Kitzan assuming the role of Executive Director, supported by her team at Kitzan Strategic Solutions (KSS).
During his tenure, Darcy helped sharpen the Wheat Growers’ focus on the issues that matter most to Canadian farmers, including transportation reliability, regulatory modernization, access to innovation, and strengthening agricultural competitiveness. His leadership helped position the organization as a strong, independent voice advocating for practical solutions that benefit producers.
Kaitlyn brings a combination of entrepreneurial experience, agricultural expertise and a strong understanding of the organization and its priorities. Having previously served as Board Treasurer and Secretary and as the founder of Kitzan Strategic Solutions, she brings both direct knowledge of the Wheat Growers and the broader capacity of a team experienced in association management, communications, governance, partnerships and organizational operations.
Through this model, Kaitlyn will provide the strategic leadership and serve as Executive Director, while the Kitzan Strategic Solutions team will support the day-to-day functions needed to move the organization forward. The approach gives the Wheat Growers dedicated leadership while also expanding the capacity and expertise available to the organization.
“This is an exciting moment for the Wheat Growers,” said Gunter Jochum, President of the Wheat Growers. “Darcy has done an exceptional job strengthening our organization and ensuring we are focused on the issues that matter most to farmers. Just as importantly, he has helped us prepare for what comes next.”
For Kaitlyn and the KSS team, the focus remains clear: continue advancing the Wheat Growers’ mission, strengthen the organization’s ability to serve and advocate for its members, and create opportunities for new voices to engage in agricultural advocacy and leadership.
As the organization looks ahead, one thing remains unchanged: its commitment to being an independent, farmer-led voice for Western Canadian agriculture.
“Leadership evolves, but our purpose remains. We have the strategy, the momentum and now additional capacity to continue moving the Wheat Growers forward.”
