The Melville Millionaires picked up three of a possible four points on their weekend road trip after earning a 3-2 overtime victory over the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday night.
The Mils opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period. Wesley Olson set up Louis Nadeau, who went in alone and beat Klippers goaltender Ethan Suhr for his first of the season to make it 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Kindersley controlled much of the second period, getting four power-play opportunities and outshooting Melville 17-5. However, it was the Millionaires who found the back of the net again.
Cole Brown’s shot took a deflection off a leg in front and came right to Isaiah Bagri at the back post, where he tapped home his second of the season to give Melville a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
The Klippers cut the deficit in half at 7:22 of the final frame, as Cobe Perlinger redirected a Konnor Watson shot past Millionaires netminder Noah Kraus for his third of the campaign.
Kindersley pulled even just over four and a half minutes later. Daniel Skalicky found space at the back post and tapped home his first goal as a Klipper during four-on-four play to tie the game at two.
In overtime, Connor Arko provided the winner with a strong individual effort. He patiently waited out Suhr before tucking home his first SJHL goal to give the Mils the extra point.
Kraus turned aside 43 of 45 shots to earn his sixth win of the season, while Suhr made 27 saves in the loss.
The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon in Kindersley. Catch the action on GX94, with the pregame show starting at 3:50 p.m. and play-by-play at 4 p.m., or listen live at gx94radio.com.
