Quarterback Trevor Harris and linebacker Jameer Thurman highlight the Saskatchewan Roughriders nominees for the CFL Awards.
The nominees, chosen by Football Reporters of Canada representatives and coach Corey Mace, were revealed Thursday.
In addition to Harris (Most Outstanding Player) and Thurman (Most Outstanding Defensive Player), the other players to be recognized are receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker (Most Outstanding Canadian), Logan Ferland (Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman), Daniel Wiebe (Most Outstanding Rookie), and Melique Straker (Most Outstanding Special Teams Player).
Harris is having one of the best seasons of his CFL career at age 40. He enters the final weekend with a league-high and career-best 5,370 passing yards. There are only three other instances of a Roughriders quarterback passing for 5,000-plus yards in a season.
Harris is the first Roughrider to win back-to-back MOP nominations since Cody Fajardo in 2019 and 2021.
Thurman has been earned the defensive distinction for the second straight year. He’s the only unanimous nominee this season.
The team captain ranks fifth in the CFL with 99 defensive tackles through 17 games, surpassing his previous career high of 97 – set with Hamilton in 2023. Thurman has also recorded three sacks, five tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and two pass knockdowns. He’s recorded 100 total tackles, including special teams.
Thurman becomes the first Roughrider to win the defensive honour in consecutive years since Tyron Brackenridge in 2012 and 2013.
Schaffer-Baker is putting the finishing touches on the best season of his CFL career despite appearing in just 11 games so far. He’s caught 67 passes for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 91.5 receiving yards per game – third best in the CFL.
This is Schaffer-Baker’s second time earning the top Canadian nomination, following his first selection in 2022. He was also named the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2021.
Logan Ferland has been named top offensive lineman for the fourth time in five seasons. He’s helped anchor a group that has allowed the second-fewest sacks in the CFL this season, with 24 through 17 games.
Ferland is the fifth Roughrider to be nominated at least four times, joining Roger Aldag (nine), Gene Makowsky (five), Jeremy O’Day (four) and Brendon LaBatte (four).
Wiebe has gone from an eighth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft to the team’s top rookie in 2026. The Rosetown native has caught 20 passes for 315 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 15.8 yards per reception in 13 games. He’s also returned 19 punts for 230 yards, an average of 12.1 yards per return, while starting five games.
Straker ranks third in the CFL with 21 special teams tackles, recording at least one in 14 games. He’s helped the Riders sit first in the league in kickoff returns (23.85-yard average) and opponent punt returns (11.1 yards), second in opponent kickoff returns (19.5 yards), and third in punt returns (13.3 yards).
