SASKATCHEWAN — Strong northerly winds developed near the border with Alberta Friday afternoon and were forecast to continue to push east through the night.
Much of southern Saskatchewan is covered by the alert issued by Environment Canada.
Strong northerly winds gusting up to 90 km/h are expected for Friday evening through Saturday, diminishing Saturday afternoon.
Winds will generally be gusting 80 to 90 km/h for much of southern Saskatchewan, but the Cypress Hills may see gusts in excess of 100 km/h Friday evening, says Environment Canada. Conditions will improve from west to east.
Local utility outages are possible. Driving conditions will likely be difficult. High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind.
There are 242 municipalities listed in the alert, including Lloydminster, North Battleford, Saskatoon, Kindersley, Swift Current, Maple Creek and Moose Jaw during the first version of the alert. Regina, Fort Qu'Appelle and Yorkton have now been added as the weather moves east.
