YORKTON, Sask. — Costumes, candy and community events will be in no short supply as Yorkton organizations prepare to celebrate Halloween with a variety of family-friendly activities ahead of and on Oct. 31.
Residents of all ages will have several opportunities to get into the Halloween spirit, from trick-or-treating and themed parties to spooky home displays featured on a citywide tour.
The Yorkton Public Library will kick off the festivities with a Spooktacular Halloween Party on Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. The event is open to children aged six and up and will feature games, music, treats and costumes. Registration is required as space is limited.
On Halloween morning, families can head to the Gloria Hayden Community Centre for Trick or Treat at the Gloria Hayden Centre from 10 a.m. to noon. Local businesses and organizations will be handing out treats, while attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item in support of the YRHS Food Pantry.
The Western Development Museum in Yorkton will host its annual Ghoul Times celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 31. The event will feature an old-fashioned Halloween party complete with games, activities, crafts and treats. Visitors are encouraged to wear costumes. Regular museum admission applies, while WDM members receive free admission.
Meanwhile, residents can also take part in the City of Yorkton's Creepy Cruise Halloween Tour, which showcases some of the city's best-decorated homes and Halloween displays. The self-guided tour map is available through the City of Yorkton website and allows families to explore creative, spooky and festive displays throughout the community.
With events taking place throughout the day and across the city, organizers hope families will take advantage of the opportunities to celebrate Halloween while supporting local organizations and community initiatives.
