SASKATCHEWAN — The province may be seeing spring-like temperatures, but there are two systems that will be sweeping across the central and southern regions, bringing anything but spring-like precipitation.
Environment Canada meteorologists said these low-pressure systems will be bringing a lot of moisture and instability, with a mix of rain and snow, negative double-digit temperatures in the far north region of the province, to positive double-digit temperatures in southern Saskatchewan. Both systems will move quickly and should clear up before the end of the week.
The first system will cross the Alberta border sometime on Tuesday night, bringing between 10 and 20 cm of snowfall. This narrower system is expected to travel above Highway 16, hitting the communities of Buffalo Narrows, Meadow Lake, La Ronge, Prince Albert and Nipawin. The southern edge of this system could see a mix of rain and snow or just rain. Freezing rain could be expected.
The second system, which is much wider than the first, is expected to follow the first by mid to late Wednesday into Thursday. Weather maps indicate the storm will affect as far north as Lloydminster and as far south as Swift Current. It is also expected to move quickly through the province, but with the warmer temperatures in the area, conditions may be more slushy than snowy and icy.
