It’s hard to believe the CFL season is almost here. It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating the Saskatchewan Roughriders winning the Grey Cup, and now training camp is already underway in Saskatoon. There’s always something exciting about this time of year. The long offseason finally comes to an end, fans start talking football again, and hope is high across Rider Nation.
The green and white hit the field for camp this week, and before you know it the preseason games will be here. The first one is already coming up Monday, May 18th as the Saskatchewan Roughriders head to Calgary to take on the Calgary Stampeders.
Of course, we’ll have the game on GX94 with the pre-game show starting at 12 noon and kickoff at 1 pm. There’s nothing better than hearing football back on the radio again. It’s one of those sounds that means summer is right around the corner.
I honestly can’t wait for this season to begin because I think the Riders have a real shot at repeating as Grey Cup champions. Sure, there were some players who moved on during the offseason, but I really like the moves this team made. It feels like management brought in some strong pieces while keeping the core together. Training camp battles should be fun to watch too as players fight for spots and try to make an impression early.
Most importantly, football season just brings people together. Rider fans are some of the most passionate fans anywhere, and there’s always that buzz around the province when the season gets rolling. Green jerseys come back out, friendly rivalries heat up, and every game suddenly feels like a big event.
Either way, it’s time. Let’s get this season rolling.
Go Riders!
