ASSINIBOIA — Travis Marit and his program, Evolved Hockey, have become familiar names in Assiniboia and the hockey community. Marit is a prominent hockey figure in Assiniboia, known as a skilled forward for the Assiniboia Senior Rebels and the owner/operator of Evolved Hockey, a local athletic development program.
Small town, big honour as Marit joins Hockey Canada staff. A recent announcement elevates the reputation built by Marit and the work he does.
Marit has been selected by Hockey Canada to become a Hockey Canada skills coach.
In an interview with the Assiniboia Times, Marit said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue learning, growing, and helping athletes develop both on and off the ice. This is another step forward for me, and for Evolved Hockey. I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Marit said he was contacted by Blaine Stork, senior co-ordinator of hockey development for Hockey Saskatchewan, who sent him information about the Hockey Canada program and encouraged him to apply, which he did.
“I described what I did, who I worked with, etc., and sent in a video montage of my coaching clips. After applying, I received a letter congratulating me on being selected to join the program, which takes place June 21-26 in Calgary,” added Marit.

The Assiniboia resident acknowledged there are post-tasks involved with the program that he will have to complete, but he isn’t exactly sure what they are as of yet.
“This certification will elevate what I currently offer through Evolved Hockey, increasing my knowledge about coaching the skills of the game to all the young players and experienced athletes I work with. I will continue doing what I do in Assiniboia, which is organizing and instructing my own skill development camps and practices.”
Evolved Hockey already has Marit travelling, and he will continue to do so, offering his Evolved Hockey practices.
“The skills coach program will be added value to myself as a coach, and to the skills and drills I offer. But, it’s tough for me to know exactly what the future holds in regard to opportunities with Hockey Canada. As for all the kids and athletes I’ve worked with across southern Sask., I’ll continue doing what I do, now just with the Hockey Canada touch.”
Evolved Hockey provides off-season conditioning, strength training and skating skill development for youth and junior athletes. As well, Marit serves as strength and conditioning coach for the Richardson Pioneer Jr. B Rebels and works with the Assiniboia Skating Club on power skating programs.
His focus has always been on developing hockey players in southern Saskatchewan through a blend of strength, skill and mindset training, he said. Now, with the opportunity to work alongside Hockey Canada, that impact is set to reach an even broader stage — opening new doors not only for his own career, but for the many young athletes who continue to train and grow under his guidance.
