We made the short drive out to Derrick and Rochelle Berrns’ farm near Springside — only about 20 minutes from Yorkton — and the second we arrived, the peaceful country atmosphere just took over. You know the kind… where the air feels quieter, everyone’s relaxed, and somehow supper tastes even better.
One of my favourite moments of the night was hearing Derrick talk about attending his very first Supper in the Field when he was just 15 years old. His family had been invited by neighbours who had won, and now years later, he and Rochelle were hosting one themselves. GX94 Supper in the Field has been bringing people together since 1992, and hearing stories like that really reminds you how connected the GX94 listening area is.
I also got to chat with Derrick and Rochelle’s sons about the family’s impressive motorcycle collection. Their oldest son told me all about his recent trip two hours north of Edmonton to pick up another bike — because one motorcycle is never enough!
The night was full of great conversations, laughs, amazing food from the Chalet Restaurant and Lounge, and the kind of hospitality that makes these evenings so special. One family friend there had two adorable little boys, so naturally I wandered over to chat with her. Turns out we’d actually met years ago at the GX94 Backyard Concert with Jess Moskaluke — which honestly feels both impossible and very believable at the same time because apparently a decade disappears in the blink of an eye.
Of course, everyone loved checking out the incredible prizes from our sponsors, and a huge thank you to the sponsors who joined us for the evening. The boys were especially excited to climb into the souped-up side-by-side from FFUN Motorsport Group Yorkton, and there were definitely some “ooohs” and “ahhhs” when we unveiled the official GX94 Supper in the Field flag along with the fantastic bottle of vodka from Dobrowody.
