KAHKEWISTAHKAW FIRST NATION — Broadview RCMP arrested a 44-year-old man following an incident where police say a woman was held against her will by an armed suspect on Kahkewistahaw First Nation.
On May 27, at approximately 4 a.m., Broadview RCMP received a report that a woman was being confined by an armed male at a residence on Kahkewistahaw First Nation.
Broadview RCMP immediately responded and arrested a man at the residential property.
Police say their investigation determined a man from the First Nation assaulted and pointed a firearm at the woman, and refused to let her leave the home. A second male at the residential property was also threatened by the armed suspect, and his vehicle was damaged. It was reported to police that no shots were fired. Neither victim reported physical injuries to police.
During a search of the residence, officers located and seized a handgun.
As a result of continued investigation, 44-year-old man from Ochapowace First Nation is charged with forcible confinement, mischief over $5,000, uttering threats, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm when knowing its possession was unauthorized.
He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on May 27.
Broadview RCMP say they continue to investigate.
