STURGIS — The annual Sturgis Sports Day weekend is quickly approaching, with committee members busy preparing for a weekend to be held June 13 and 14 at the Sturgis Sports Grounds.
The weekend has many area residents and volunteers gearing up for a weekend that features something for everyone. The weekend events and activities have been revitalized with new ideas and exciting activities.
The weekend kicks off with a pancake breakfast hosted by the READ Club on the sports grounds, followed by gymkhana events for weepee and peewee, and juniors and seniors, sponsored by the Etomamie Valley Riders. A mutton busting competition will be held June 13.
A trade show will be featured all day on both days and new this year is a family fun zone, which consists of rock wall climbing, a corn hole mini golf course, zorb balls, bouncy inflatables, pedal cars and duckville.
Also new this year is an Extreme Lumberjack show with two shows each day.
The EPCCA chariot and chuckwagon races are a highlight to the weekend.
The Sturgis Fire Department will be providing fire truck rides on both days.
Senior men’s baseball will feature the Canora Supers against the Sal Coils Lakers on June 13. A barrel racing jackpot will feature the best of the best barrel racers competing for a guaranteed jackpot of $3,500.
The evening of June 13 wraps up with a fireworks show and a dance with music by Tim Romanson and Cattle Drive.
June 14 begins with a pancake breakfast hosted by the READ Club on the sports grounds, followed by a cowboy church service and the conclusion of gymkhana events, and the chuckwagon and chariot races.
A goat panty challenge will conclude the weekend's events.
All weekend, there will be face painting, food trucks, a beer tent and a kitchen that will be open all weekend.
