REGINA — The storms that hit Saskatchewan over the past few days resulted in high call volumes for SGI.
In an email to SaskToday, SGI media relations said it has received an influx of auto and property claims from the Regina area following the June 9 storm. The Crown corporation expects to receive more in the coming days.
“The majority of these claims are related to hail and wind damage,” SGI said. “Claims staff are working as quickly as possible to support customers dealing with storm damage.”
So far, SGI said it has received more than 2,800 auto claims from the Regina area as of the afternoon of June 10. Based on SGI’s appraisal criteria, the company said customers will either be asked to attend an SGI appraisal event or visit a repair shop for an estimate. The Crown corporation is scheduling appraisal events for auto claims over the next couple of weekends and working closely with its repair shop network to help manage these claims as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, SGI Canada has received approximately 300 property damage claims as of the afternoon of June 10.
“SGI Canada is not the only property insurer in Regina, so this number is not representative of the total amount of property damage in the area,” the email stated.
Customers should check their property and vehicles for damage, SGI said. If any storm-related damage is noticed, it is recommended that customers start the claims process as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, SGI said it has received an average number of auto and property claims following recent severe weather in the southeast.
As of the morning of June 10, the southeast region accounted for roughly half of the claims reported from the June 6 and 7 storms. SGI said it has also received claims from the east-central region.
Oxbow accounted for 12 claims, with a mixture of auto and property claims, followed by Midale with 10 and Virden, Man., with eight.
Since June 7, SGI and SGI Canada have received approximately 100 storm-related claims, SGI said. These figures are preliminary, as additional claims may be filed.
Hail is the most common type of damage related to recent auto claims, SGI said, while water damage is the most common property claim.
Customers can file their auto claim by phone at 1-844-855-2744 and choose the Saskatchewan auto claims option. Claims can also be submitted online or in person at an SGI claims centre. For property claims, customers are encouraged to contact their insurance broker so they can help submit their claims and advise them about the coverage on their policy.
