Saskatchewan Roughriders' receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker hauled in two touchdowns against the Calgary Stampeders and answered how he got himself open on those scores.
"I'm not going to lie to you. They call me 7-11," Schaffer-Baker joked with the media after the game. "I'm open 24 hours, I'm always open."
The Riders defeated Calgary 40-37 in double-overtime, which extends the team's record to 2-0 this season.
"As long as we get the win, I don't care how the game goes," Schaffer-Baker said. "As long as we finish with the dub, the goal every single week is to go 1-0, and that's what we did."
This season, Schaffer-Baker has started both games for the Green and White, catching 19 passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns.
When talking about the game against Calgary, the Riders led through three quarters before the Stampeders came back in the fourth to force overtime. Schaffer-Baker wanted to highlight how his team handles adversity when reflecting on the game against Calgary.
"Football is like life, man. It's going to be a roller coaster ride. It's full of ups and downs. It's all about riding those waves. It's never getting too high in those high moments, and it's about never getting too low in those low moments. It's staying even-keeled the whole time, and I think we did a phenomenal job of that," Schaffer-Baker detailed.
"I know we didn't answer the way we wanted going into half, but I think we responded as soon as we came back out. They say the game's not over until the clock hits zero, but we had a little bit of extra time on that clock, we kept fighting, and we found a way."
Last year, the Riders were unable to defeat the Stampeders, losing 24-10 in Week 6 and 32-15 in Week 12, which gave added motivation to Schaffer-Baker and the Green and White.
"Most definitely. If you're talking about the things you did yesterday, you ain't done enough today, so we're not so much worried about what they did in the past," Schaffer-Baker explained.
"One thing we picked up really big on is that Calgary really wanted to play us. They've been wishing and hoping for this moment. They said they wanted to play us in the final last year, but be careful what you wish for because you don't want to see that Roughrider green on the other side."
Next on the Riders schedule will be playing the Toronto Argonauts on Friday at Mosaic Stadium. Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder will have the call at 7 p.m. with the pre-game show starting at 4 p.m. You can either watch the stream or listen on the 620 CKRM Co-operators Rider Broadcast Network.
