A flash flood alert has been issued for the Municipality of Swan Valley West following heavy rainfall that has left roads damaged and unsafe.
Local officials say significant precipitation has caused water levels to rise rapidly along area waterways and in low-lying regions. Overland flooding is currently occurring or is imminent in multiple locations, including the community of Benito.
The municipality warns that floodwaters are moving swiftly, posing a serious risk to both life and property.
Residents are being strongly advised against any travel at this time due to extensive road damage. While emergency crews are currently on the scene responding to the situation, officials say it may be necessary for people in affected areas to shelter in place.
Anyone requiring additional information or non-emergency updates is asked to call 204-734-3344 or visit the municipal website at www.munswanvalleywest.com.
For immediate life-threatening emergencies, residents should call 911.
