The Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships are underway at Golf Kenosee, with a pair of golfers sharing the lead in the Men’s Amateur after the opening round.
Ethan Hunter and Jesse Gibson each fired 4-under par 68s to sit atop the leaderboard. Gibson also holds the lead in the Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at 3-under, one shot ahead of Regina’s Carson Harcourt, who grew up in Kipling.
Carter Bell of Saskatoon is tied for fourth in the amateur championship after opening with a 2-under 70 along with Edmonton’s Andrew Funk
On the women’s side, Regina’s Alex Schmidt is off to a strong start, leading both the Women’s Amateur and Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships after shooting a 4-over 77.
She carries a four-shot advantage over Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon in the amateur division, while defending champion Chloe Wills of Kyle sits five shots back in third.
Regina’s Kim Walker is second place in the mid-amateur event after an opening round of 12 over par 85.
Round two continues Wednesday at Golf Kenosee, with the 54-hole Women’s and Mid-Amateur Championships wrapping up Thursday, while the Men’s Amateur concludes Friday.
