The stage is set for an exciting finish at the Saskatchewan Amateur Golf Championships at Golf Kenosee.
One week after capturing the Saskatchewan Junior Women’s Championship, Saskatoon’s Grace Odnokon has carried that momentum into the provincial amateur event. The 16-year-old fired a 1-over-par 74 on Wednesday to climb into a tie for the Women’s Amateur lead alongside Regina’s Alex Schmidt.
Schmidt, who led after the opening round, carded a 5-over 78 in round two but remains tied atop the leaderboard entering Thursday’s final round. Defending champion Chloe Wills of Kyle is still within striking distance, sitting five shots back.
While the Women’s Amateur title is up for grabs, Schmidt has all but wrapped up the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, taking a commanding 21-shot lead into the final day.
On the men’s side, Regina’s Joergen Viken made the biggest move of the tournament. After opening with an even-par round, Viken posted a tournament-best 3-under 69 on Wednesday to jump into a three-way tie for first in the Men’s Amateur Championship.
Viken shares the lead with Mex Regier and first-round leader Ethan Hunter. Regier followed his opening-round 70 with a 2-under performance, while Hunter stayed atop the leaderboard despite shooting a 1-over 73.
Viken also leads the Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Edmonton’s Andrew Funk sits second at 2-under, Carson Harcourt is third at 1-under, and Jesse Gibson remains in contention at even par.
The Women’s Amateur and both Mid-Amateur championships conclude Thursday, while the Men’s Amateur Championship will continue into Friday following the 54-hole cut.
