The field for the historic 100th edition of the Montana's Brier in Saskatoon is beginning to take shape.
Curling Canada announced Tuesday that three teams have already secured spots in the 2027 Canadian men's curling championship, which will be held Feb. 26 to March 7 at SaskTel Centre.
Defending champion Matt Dunstone and his Winnipeg-based team will return as Team Canada after capturing the 2026 Brier title.
Joining Dunstone in the pre-qualified field are Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs and his Calgary rink, along with Saskatoon's Tyler Tardi.
Tardi earned the berth after taking over as skip of the former Mike McEwen team, which finished among the top teams in the 2025-26 Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS). Curling Canada confirmed the team maintained the required three-of-four player continuity to retain its qualification.
Under Curling Canada's qualification system, four teams receive automatic berths into the Brier each year. Those spots are awarded to the defending champions and the top three teams from the previous season's CTRS standings, provided at least three players remain together from the previous season.
Because not every eligible team met that requirement, one pre-qualified position remains available. It will be awarded to the highest-ranked team on the 2026-27 CTRS that does not qualify through its provincial or territorial championship.
The remainder of the 18-team field will be determined through provincial and territorial playdowns later this season.
The 2027 Brier is the first time Saskatoon has hosted the event since 2012.
Curling Canada also announced the first three pre-qualified teams for the 2027 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Charlottetown. Defending champions Team Kerri Einarson, Olympic bronze medallist Rachel Homan and Team Taylor Reese-Hansen have all secured early berths.
In addition, Curling Canada confirmed the PointsBet Invitational will no longer be part of its annual schedule. Beginning in the 2027-28 season, the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship will become the organization's major fall event.
