Nutrien is one of many agricultural companies at Ag in Motion promoting what they can offer to farmers.
Among them is a relatively new app called eKonomics, which helps farmers and agronomists improve decision making around soil fertility.
The app includes crop guides, return-on-investment calculators, input calculators, an ask an agronomist feature, articles and more.
Amy Crozier Nutrien's Senior Marketing Representative, says the app is "getting more and more" adopted since its launch three years ago.
"If my husband can use it, who farms, then anybody can use it because he's not technology savvy and it’s 100% free.” Crozier said.
The newest feature is an input calculator that can run scenarios "from putting your farm equipment in, to fuel, to land rent, all your fertility, and all the extra applications of herbicide and fungicide", she said.
"You can run scenarios on what it costs to put in that crop and what the potential outcome is, so you can use any different crop, different fertilizers, and see what that's going to look like in order for you to make informed decisions to ensure you’re profitable on your farm.”
The eKonomics app can be found on the Google Play and Apple stores.
New canola hybrid varieties
New hybrid canola varieties were introduced at Ag in Motion.
This week, Nutrien launched PV281 CLCM and PV 785 TCN as part of its Proven Seed series.
Jennifer Dale, the Canola Product Line Manager at Nutrien Ag Solutions, says the new canola hybrids manage increasing disease pressure from clubroot and blackleg and protect yield potential.
The proven seed hybrids were tested on more than 110 field-scale trials across Western Canada and at 17 dedicated canola research & development sites.
Dale stated both were marketed toward northern Alberta where "we are seeing some breakdowns and concerns about clubroot."
Blackleg is also showing up in Western Canada "especially on years like this where we do have some high moisture" she added, in reference to excessive moisture and flooding conditions in eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba.
The new varieties were showcased near the Nutrien booth as part of crop tours.
She says farmers are excited about the new hybrid varieties.
"We want to ensure that we have options for growers again across that Western Canadian marketplace. And so having these multi-genic clubroot that can also be straight cut is going to be a great opportunity for our growers."
