YORKTON — GX94 was live on location July 24 at a new Yorkton business that is hoping to fill an important gap in women's health care by providing specialized breast health products and post-surgical support closer to home.
Lola's Bra Boutique recently opened in the city, offering a range of products for women dealing with breast cancer recovery, lymphoedema and other breast health needs, alongside traditional bras and swimwear.
Owner Lola Novak said breast health is at the heart of the business.
"We're all about breast health here," Novak said.
The boutique carries mastectomy bras, breast forms and lumpectomy kits designed to help women achieve symmetry following breast cancer surgery. Novak said the store also stocks post-surgical bras and can order specialized medical supplies needed before or after procedures.
"If you had breast cancer, you're recovering from it and you had a portion removed, we can help. We can make it even," she said.
Novak added that access to products locally can make a significant difference for women navigating treatment and recovery.
"I can get any surgical supply that you need for prior to your surgery," she said. "I order it in, it doesn't take long."
The store also offers products aimed at helping women manage lymphoedema, a condition that can occur following cancer treatments.
In addition to its health-focused inventory, Lola's Bra Boutique carries a wide selection of bras and swimwear. Novak said bra sizes range from a 32 band to a 40 band and cup sizes from C to K.
"We have great bras, a great selection," she said. "Everything breast health, come on in."
Breast cancer remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among women in Saskatchewan, accounting for about one-quarter of all new female cancer diagnoses. Approximately 790 new cases and 170 deaths are projected in the province annually.
To support early detection, Saskatchewan has expanded access to routine mammogram screening. Women aged 40 and older without symptoms can now book screening mammograms without requiring a physician's referral.
