Long weekends always seem to fly by, don’t they? One minute you’re finishing work on Friday, and the next thing you know it’s time to set the alarm for another week.
I can’t complain though, because this long weekend was exactly what I needed.
Saturday was all about staying cool. We spent plenty of time around the pool, enjoying the warm weather and making the most of summer. It was also a great day to spend time with family, and we wrapped up the evening the best way possible—with a backyard fire and a good old-fashioned wiener roast. There’s just something about sitting around a fire on a summer evening that makes you forget about everything else for a while.
Sunday was another day spent outside. With temperatures staying warm, the pool was once again the place to be. Sometimes you don’t need a packed schedule or a road trip to have a great weekend. A relaxing day at home can be just as enjoyable.
By Monday, it was time to get ready for the week ahead. We spent most of the day indoors, and I even got a little cooking done. I made a big pot of tomato hamburger soup, which turned out delicious, and helped my wife make beet rolls—or beetniks, depending on what you call them! No matter the name, they’re always a favourite and well worth the effort.
Looking back, it was one of those weekends that felt busy enough to keep you occupied but relaxing enough to leave you feeling refreshed. That’s probably the perfect combination.
Now it’s back to reality, but with summer still rolling along, there are plenty more weekends to enjoy.
How was your long weekend? Did you get away, tackle some projects, or simply relax at home? I’d love to hear what you were up to!
