REGINA – The 2026-27 first quarter report of public losses for ministries and Treasury Board Crowns includes updates on losses impacting the Water Security Agency and SaskEnergy due to theft and fraud activity.
In the case of the Water Security Agency, they were a victim of bank fraud. According to the report for the period April 1 to June 30, an amount of $23,937.24 in public losses was reported due to banking information being fraudulently changed by someone impersonating a vendor of the Water Security Agency.
This incident occurred in March 2026 and was reported to police, and is under investigation.
Crown Investments Corporation also provided an update on an incident reported in previous quarters about internal fuel theft primarily in the construction department of SaskEnergy, in the amount of $10,228.66.
This took place between Feb. 2024 and summer 2025 and was reported in quarter three of 2025-26.
According to the report on the status of the incident, the matter has been reported to police and SaskEnergy intends to recover the value of the fuel stolen. They report an initial internal control and security assessment has been performed, and enhanced controls with respect to fuel purchases have been identified and are in the process of being implemented.
