Saskatchewan RCMP warning of fraud targeting heavy-duty trucking and transportation sector

SASKATCHEWAN — Saskatchewan RCMP's Central District General Investigation Section is warning the public, particularly businesses in the heavy-duty trucking and transportation sector, about a large-scale fraud involving the purchase of truck tires and other equipment using fraudulent credit cards.

Police say fraudsters are placing orders over the phone and paying with stolen or fraudulently obtained credit card information, leaving businesses vulnerable to significant financial losses. The RCMP is urging retailers and suppliers to remain vigilant and report suspicious transactions.

In March 2026, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Central District GIS launched an investigation into a series of fraud-related occurrences throughout the province. The businesses that are impacted are generally operating in the supply of heavy-duty trucking and transportation services – including, but not limited to, automotive suppliers, tire shops, and fuel distributors. Investigation determined that these businesses received phone calls from individuals interested in purchasing tires, engine oil, and/or trailer parts. The caller would provide credit card information over the phone, with the transaction showing to be approved and pending. Businesses would then ship the materials by a courier. After the items were shipped, the credit card would be declined, and no payment would be received.

Investigators have determined that 12 local businesses within Saskatchewan's heavy-duty trucking and transportation sector have been impacted by this fraud. These businesses are located in the following communities:

• Battleford
• Weyburn
• Hudson Bay
• Kindersley
• Biggar
• Assiniboia
• White Butte
• Moosomin
• Cudworth
• Onion Lake

No charges have been laid in connection with this investigation yet; however, RCMP say they are sharing this information to help prevent further victimization. Investigators believe additional businesses have been targeted and are encouraging those who’ve received an order under suspicious circumstances, regardless of whether it resulted in a financial or material loss, to report it to police.

The investigation extends across provincial borders, with other related incidents having been identified throughout Western Canada. Central District GIS continues its investigation and is collaborating with other police jurisdictions to advance the investigation.

Anyone who believes they are a victim of a crime of this nature is asked to report it to their local RCMP detachment by calling 310-RCMP (if residing in Saskatchewan) or their local police service immediately. Although victims identified in this fraud are primarily from the heavy-duty trucking and transportation sector, businesses in other sectors may also be targeted and should familiarize themselves with the characteristics of this type of fraudulent activity.

The Saskatchewan RCMP encourages the public and businesses to exercise caution and consider the following safety tips when a caller requests to make a purchase over the phone:

• Be cautious of orders where the first payment card is declined. Fraudsters often attempt to complete purchases using multiple cards after an initial card is rejected.

• Never rely solely on caller ID and verify the callers’ identity before processing any payment information.

• Be alert to rushed or unusual requests.

• If a transaction appears suspicious, do not proceed until it has been verified.

• Report suspected fraud to police immediately.
