Does it feel like our weather has changed lately, or is it just me?
I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older or if the weather really is different, but it feels like we don’t get the steady seasons we used to. Instead, it seems like we’re always bouncing from one extreme to another.
Take this summer for example. June felt like it was stuck on repeat with cool temperatures and rain. It seemed like every time we looked outside there were dark clouds rolling in or another shower on the way. Then July arrived and someone must have turned the tap off. Suddenly it was hot, dry, and we were wondering when we’d see rain again.
It was a hot month, that’s for sure.
Now the calendar has flipped to August, and just like that, it feels more like early fall than the middle of summer. The temperatures have cooled off, the mornings have that crisp feeling, and looking at the forecast, it doesn’t seem like we’re heading back to those summer temperatures anytime soon.
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t help feeling like we were robbed of a proper summer. It feels like we only got about three weeks of true summer weather before it disappeared.
I remember growing up and feeling like summer lasted forever. We’d usually get a couple of solid months of warm weather, with the occasional rainy day mixed in to keep everything green. These days it feels like we’re either dealing with flooding rains, drought conditions, or temperatures that swing wildly from one week to the next.
Maybe that’s just how weather is now, or maybe I’m looking back through rose-coloured glasses. Either way, I wouldn’t mind a few more weeks of sunshine, comfortable evenings, and backyard weather before we have to start thinking about sweaters, hockey season, and frost.
What do you think? Has our weather changed over the years, or is this just another one of those summers we’ll talk about for years to come?
