REGINA – This week's latest Ministry of Highways construction update highlighted some particular projects in the north central portion of the province.
In particular, the government's biweekly update pointed to projects in the Wakaw and Rosthern areas. Wakaw is seeing two roads projects to the north and south on highway 2 that motorists need to be aware of.
To the south, a estimated $27.2 million project is under way to rebuild 17 km of Highway 2 between Wakaw and Cudworth, along with replacement of two culverts replaced, with paving to follow. Grading work is currently under way, with tree clearing work beginning during the week of March 30 and roadwork starting in the middle May. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of next year, 2027.
To the north of Wakaw, an investment of $2.7 million is going to improvements on six kilometres of Highway 2. The work began May 19, and paving is now complete with final project completion expected by late fall.
About 13 km west of Rosthern is an $800,000 project to replace three culverts for Highway 312. The ministry said worl began June 17 and was completed July 9.
In the St. George's Hill area abiut $100,000 in repairs began and were completed in June on the Highway 925 bridge over the Dillon River. The ministrt said this project includes installation of steel pier piles, to address damage caused by ice during spring run-off.
The ministry says the projects' timelines are always subject to weather.
In their biweekly update, Highways Minister Kim Gartner had a message to motorists to stay alert and be patient while driving.
"Drive to current conditions, pay attention to the road ahead and obey all construction signs and flag persons, as our crews and contractors work to improve our highway network," Gartner said. "We want everyone to get home safely."
