YORKTON — Supporters of the Yorkton Flour Mill are gearing up for a day of family activities, food and friendly competition as the Rally Round the Mill fundraiser returns Aug. 8.
The event at the historic flour mill site on Livingston Street is designed to raise money for the preservation and restoration of one of Yorkton's most recognizable heritage landmarks.
A highlight of the day will be the Kinsmen Great Canadian Road Rally, an Amazing Race-style competition that will send participants around Yorkton in search of clues, checkpoints and challenges.
The rally is open to both the public and local businesses, with separate public and commercial divisions. Teams will follow the same route but begin at different locations and complete activities at checkpoints throughout the city. Winners will be determined based on both completion times and challenge results.
Families, community groups, co-workers and other supporters of the flour mill are invited to take part in the citywide adventure.
The day begins at 11:30 a.m. with pancakes served by Yorkton Professional Fire Fighters, followed by live entertainment at noon. The road rally and beer garden are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with children's activities starting at 2 p.m. A Lions Club barbecue burger supper will wrap up the day's events beginning at 4 p.m.
The road rally costs $25 per vehicle to enter. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the public division, while trophies will be presented to first, second and third place teams in both categories.
Participants will be required to sign a waiver agreeing to follow traffic laws and the rules of participating businesses and organizations.
The event combines community spirit, local history and friendly competition while raising funds for the preservation of the Yorkton Flour Mill.
