WAKAW — Wakaw and the surrounding area are going all out to make the final month of summer noteworthy.
Saturday, Aug. 8, Wakaw Lake Regional Park Authority and Lake Country Co-op are sponsoring Kids’ Day in the Park. Kids can enjoy free hot dogs starting at noon until 2 p.m. while supplies last and free mini golf until 4 p.m., when a golf cart parade, including a bike parade for kids, will start. In the concession area from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be bouncy castles for youngsters, free rides on the kids’ train and sparkle tattoos.
Aug. 15 is shaping up to be a particularly busy day with additional events lined up for Walk’aw Day. The main event is the Saskatchewan Roughriders watch party, put on by the Riders on the road team, set to start at 4 p.m. However, the day features a full schedule of activities leading up to that moment. Residents and visitors can participate in a variety of events designed to encourage everyone to enjoy summer before it’s over.
The Wakaw and District Farmers Market will be opening the doors of Little Big Town at 10 a.m. as usual, and the 100 and 200 blocks of 1st Street South will be blocked off to facilitate pedestrian traffic as residents and visitors “eat, walk, and shop” the deals in downtown Wakaw between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
From 11 a.m. to noon, the Wakaw Library is once again hosting the Adventure Wranglers. The Adventure Wranglers provide an educational show that features a variety of snakes and reptiles. It is focused on teaching conservation through education. All the snakes and reptiles are carefully selected for educational interactions and are handled by experienced professionals. Safety is the top priority, and all sessions are supervised at all times. Based out of Colonsay, Adventure Wranglers creates fun, safe and educational reptile experiences for children, families, and schools. Their mission is to spark curiosity, foster respect for wildlife and cultivate a love for learning through engaging animal encounters.

The Walk’aw Days Car Show will run from 1 to 4 p.m. and will cater to individuals of all age groups with an interest in car shows and automobiles. Attendees can view and engage with owners of a wide variety of vehicles, from cars to trucks to motorcycles, and possibly tractors, both vintage and modern. Any vehicle equipped with a motor and a fuel tank may be showcased.
