The North Battleford Beavers capped an undefeated weekend Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over the hometown Saltcoats Lakers to capture the 2026 Baseball Sask Senior AA Tier II Provincial Championship.
The championship final featured the top two teams from pool play. North Battleford entered the game as the undefeated No. 1 seed, while Saltcoats had just one loss — a narrow 10-9 defeat to the Beavers earlier in the tournament.
The Lakers earned their spot in the final in dramatic fashion Sunday morning, completing a suspended game from Saturday night. Broden Bilokreli scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Saltcoats an extra-inning victory and set up a rematch with North Battleford for provincial gold.
In the championship game, the Beavers got strong pitching and timely hitting. Jared Schmidt delivered a standout performance on the mound, keeping the Lakers’ offence in check and helping North Battleford take control.
Brenden Pollard came on in relief and closed out the victory as the Beavers secured the 7-2 win.
Caleb Hosieth was named North Battleford’s championship-game MVP, while Evan McCubbing earned MVP honours for Saltcoats.
The victory gave the Beavers a perfect weekend and the Senior AA Tier II provincial title, while the Lakers settled for silver on home turf.
The Saltcoats Park Board, tournament organizers, volunteers and the community also earned praise for putting together a first-class provincial championship and creating a memorable atmosphere throughout the weekend.
