MELVILLE — Residents still have time to donate gently used sports equipment to a community gear drive aimed at helping local families while supporting youth programs in Melville.
Donations are being accepted at the CN Community Centre administration office during regular office hours. The campaign is seeking a range of equipment, including hockey gear, skates and helmets, baseball and softball equipment, soccer gear, basketballs and athletic shoes, as well as skis, snowboards and other winter sports equipment.
Collected items will be sold during Community Registration Night on Aug. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CN Community Centre.
Proceeds from the sale will support the school breakfast program and other local youth initiatives. The program will also help make sports equipment more affordable for local families by giving gently used gear a second life.
The campaign encourages residents to donate equipment they no longer use rather than storing it or discarding it, helping keep usable items in circulation within the community.
Residents interested in donating equipment can drop off items at the CN Community Centre administration office before the Aug. 24 sale.
