CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 37 calls from Aug. 6 to Aug. 13, some of which included:
- four 911 Act calls,
- two animal calls,
- one assault,
- one assault with a weapon,
- one breach of peace,
- two municipal bylaw calls,
- one failure to stop or remain at accident scene,
- one failure to comply with undertaking,
- one Firearms Act call,
- two impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- one mischief to motor vehicle,
- one operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited,
- six thefts under $5,000,
- two traffic collisions,
- seven traffic offences, and
- onewellbeing check.
Lost boat found in ditch
On Aug. 7, the Canora RCMP received a call from a man reporting he lost his boat. The boat and trailer were last seen hitched to the caller’s vehicle on Highway 5 between Kamsack and Canora. The boat and trailer were later recovered in the ditch outside Kamsack with only minor damage.
Dispute results in arrest
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 8 to a 911 call in Canora for a report of a dispute between two neighbours. Police went to a residence and learned the caller was weed whacking in his yard when the neighbour threw a glass plate that nearly hit his head. A 60-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. The man was released on an undertaking to have to no contact with the victim.
Wedding crasher
On Aug. 8, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a wedding to remove an unwanted woman crashing a wedding on Aug. 8. While enroute to the wedding police were called off after being informed the unwanted guest left on their own.
Wellbeing check results in hospital visit
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Aug. 8 to a residence in Canora to check on the wellbeing of the homeowner. Police went to the residence and found a door to have been left open. A man was found on the ground in medical distress. EMS was called and took the man to the hospital.
Boat & toolbox stole
The Canora RCMP investigated a theft in Preeceville on Aug. 10. A 12-foot aluminum boat and a large toolbox was taken from behind a residence. Investigation is ongoing.
Bear in residential area?
On Aug. 13, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to report a bear was in Canora. Police learned there was no actual bear sighting, but suspected bear scat was found on Parker Crescent. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment was contacted to assist with the investigation.
