YORKTON — Yorkton residents will have an opportunity to help shape plans for the future of Jaycee Beach and a new off-leash dog park as the city launches a public engagement process this fall.
The City of Yorkton has partnered with Praxis Consulting Inc., a Saskatchewan-based research and consulting firm, to gather community feedback on the Jaycee Beach revitalization project and the relocation of the city's dog park.
Applications are now being accepted for focus groups aimed at collecting input from residents and stakeholders affected by the projects.
Two community focus groups for the Jaycee Beach project will be held Sept. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sept. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The city's off-leash dog park near Jaycee Beach is slated to move to Logan Green Flats off Queen Street. As part of that transition, dog park users are invited to participate in a focus group Sept. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss features they would like to see at the new location.
City officials say the proposed Logan Green Flats site will offer more space than the existing dog park, allowing for additional amenities.
A separate focus group for residents living near Logan Green Flats is planned for Sept. 2 from 9 to 11 a.m. and will focus on neighbourhood considerations related to the new dog park, including parking, access, fencing, maintenance, noise and other potential impacts.
Applications for focus groups are available through the city's website until Aug. 26. Space is limited, and selected applicants will be contacted directly by Praxis Consulting.
The city says additional engagement opportunities will include stakeholder interviews, a community survey focused on the Jaycee Beach revitalization project and a public open house covering both initiatives.
Residents can also follow project updates and provide feedback through the city's Shape Your City online engagement platform.
In light of recent scam activity in the community, the city is reminding residents that individuals selected to participate will be contacted directly by Praxis Consulting. The firm will not request payment information, banking details, passwords or other sensitive financial information. Residents who are uncertain about the legitimacy of communications related to the engagement process are encouraged to contact the City of Yorkton before responding.
