The provincial golf spotlight will turn to Yorkton this weekend, as Deer Park Golf Course hosts the 2026 Saskatchewan Mixed Championship.
The championship is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday and is part of Golf Saskatchewan’s provincial championship calendar. It brings together teams featuring one male and one female golfer, competing as a mixed team for the provincial title.
The format is a two-player alternate-shot competition, meaning teammates take turns hitting the same ball throughout the round.
Defending Champions
The Saskatchewan Mixed Championship has a long history, dating back to 2008.
Last year, Alex Schmidt and Joergen Viken captured the title at North Battleford Golf and Country Club. The pair tied the championship’s record for the lowest winning score, shooting a combined 12-under par over two rounds.
Schmidt and Viken opened with a seven-under 65 before firing a five-under 67 in the final round to win by 16 strokes. The 2025 championship featured 32 teams and 64 golfers.
Schmidt had also won the championship in 2024 alongside her father, Wayne Schmidt, at Golf Kenosee.
The championship has also previously been hosted at Deer Park, with the Yorkton course serving as the site of the 2013 Saskatchewan Mixed Championship.
