This weekend I took myself to see a movie that was never supposed to see the light of day, Coyote vs. Acme. The movie was one of three movies that were originally shelved by Warner Brothers in favour of a tax write-off, instead of releasing the movie in theaters or even on streaming. The other two that were shelved, Scoob! Holiday Haunt and Batgirl, still remain on that shelf despite being nearly complete. (It’s been 4 years since the shelving and I’m still not over it.) So when it was announced that Coyote vs. Acme was getting a release, thanks to Ketchup Entertainment, you better believe I took myself to the theater, sat down with some popcorn and gave it a watch.
Obviously since it just came out, no spoilers, but the movie had so many funny moments, and not just a soft chuckle, full on laughing out loud multiple times. It also had heartfelt moments that made me cry and regret that I didn’t bring any tissues. Not to mention, it blended the cartoon and real world so perfectly, it was the right amount of zaniness and realism. Amounts we haven’t seen since Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam. It’s a great family watch, but is genuinely just a good watch for anyone.
Honestly, supporting Coyote vs. Acme feels important. Movies like this deserve to be seen and enjoyed, not hidden away for years. Make sure to give the movie some support and show that movies don’t belong on a shelf collecting dust, they should be in a theater (and then eventually on streaming and DVD).
