CANORA, SASK. – “We are excited to greet and meet all of our students,” said Principal Shawna Stangel, Canora Junior Elementary School, looking forward to the arrival of the students for the first day of school on Sept. 2.
There are many things to remember – or to learn for the first time as school gets underway – one of the most important of which is safety.
“At CJES the safety and security of all students is of the utmost importance,” said Stangel.
“As in past years, we ask that all families and visitors to our school abide by the appropriate drop-off and pick-up guidelines we have established. Please ensure that you and anyone who will be picking up/dropping off your child know about these guidelines.
- The Bus Zone is located directly in front of the school and is clearly marked by street signs as well as bright orange traffic cones that say ‘buses only.’ The Bus Zone is a no parking, no stop area. Children are not to be dropped off or picked up in this area. The Bus Zone is red on the map.
- The staff parking lot is for staff only. Please use street parking when visiting the school. Please avoid walking through the staff parking lot. The parking lot is also red on the map.
- Please model safe drop-off practices by parking on the street and using sidewalks to gain access to our playground and school. Parking drop-off/pick-up areas are green.
- A reminder that the school zone speed is 30 km/h and U-turns are illegal anywhere in a school zone.
Students are to arrive at school between 8:45 a.m. and 8:55 a.m. Supervision is not provided on school grounds prior to 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival at 8:45, students may play on the playground between 8:45 a.m. and 8:55 a.m. until the bell rings for school to begin.
