PREECEVILLE, Sask. — Preeceville School opened its doors to welcome staff and students back for another school year on Sept. 2. Students and staff reported having a great first week. New staff are Megan Maier and Leanne Haas.
Leanne Haas is the new kindergarten teacher. Haas is originally from Kelvington and has more than 35 years of experience teaching elementary students. She earned her Bachelor of Education at the U of S and started her career in southern Alberta. She continued teaching pre-K and kindergarten in Kahkewistahaw for eight years; later, she taught at Yellow Quill First Nations for 20 years, then at the Hutterite Colony for one year, teaching kindergarten to Grade 4; then she continued to Fishing Lake First Nations for four years and Rose Valley for seven years.
Megan Maier has 23 years of experience and started her career in Caronport, teaching Grades 4 and 8 for one year, followed by substitute teaching in Vermilion for Grade 6. The family moved to Waterloo, Ont., where she taught senior English, night school and summer school and also worked as a substitute teacher. She returned to Preeceville in 2013, where she substitute taught in Sturgis in 2018, and in 2024 she was the Sturgis kindergarten teacher. In Preeceville, she will be teaching Grades 8 and 9 math, Grades 6 and 7 English and art and will be helping with the cross-country program.
Preeceville School also has two interns. Emily Forman is interning under the leadership of Megan Morton Blender. Tegan Newman is interning under the leadership of Heidi Paterson.
Forman is originally from Benito, Man., and attended the U of S, where she is currently working on her Bachelor of Education. She will be teaching Grades 6 and 7. Her first internship had her in Kamsack and Saskatoon. She will be at the school only until December. She enjoys reading and will be helping with the Breakfast Café and Art Group.
Newman is a U of R intern originally from Shellbrook and will be helping to teach health science, social studies and art. He enjoys playing club volleyball and is possibly looking at assisting with the program at the school.
