YELLOW QUILL FIRST NATION, Sask. —A partnership has been forged between Suncrest College and Yellow Quill First Nation in what officials are calling an important step toward strengthening education, training and community-based opportunities for learners and community members.
The partnership was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Aug. 26.
According to Suncrest College, the MOU provides a framework for Yellow Quill First Nation and Suncrest College to work together to increase access to culturally relevant education and training, support skills development aligned with labour market needs, foster pathways to employment and
enhance collaboration on strategic initiatives. As the relationship develops, both partners will have opportunities to build capacity, share knowledge, and learn from one another, the college states in a press release.
Chief of Yellow Quill First Nation, John Machiskinic, emphasized the importance of partnerships that respect community voice and create tangible benefits for members, including education and employment opportunities.
He said the signing marks “an exciting new chapter in collaboration, education and opportunity.”
“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to creating pathways for learning, skills development and meaningful opportunities that support the community and its members.
By working together, Yellow Quill First Nation and Suncrest College are building a strong foundation for future initiatives and long-term success.

together with a shared vision for a brighter future.”
Suncrest College President and CEO, Alison Dubreuil, said the agreement creates an opportunity for the college to work alongside Yellow Quill First Nation in ways that are responsive to the community’s priorities and future needs.

The MOU provides a foundation for the two organizations to identify and pursue opportunities that support the priorities of Yellow Quill First Nation and the region.
