KAMSACK, Sask. — A final decision on the Broda Sportsplex has yet to be made.
The fate of Kamsack's local ice skating arena and curling rink was discussed by Kamsack Town Council at its Sept. 14 meeting.
Consensus around the table is that the intent is to have the facility opened for the winter, town administrator Barry Hvidston said. “We want the rink to open, but no formal decisions have been made.”
Mayor Beth Dix said that the results of the survey are still being tallied and council is still waiting for reports.
“We’ll open if we can do it in a safe manner,” she said.
Council is waiting for results of a safety inspection and overview of costs involved.
The local arena was discussed during an emergency public meeting at the OCC Hall on Sept. 3. The meeting revealed major issues, including a leaking roof, mould, a broken ice plant and failed safety inspections.
After about two hours of explanations and discussions at the public meeting, the consensus of those attending seemed to indicate residents favoured a route that would retain the facility and a number of persons volunteered to work on a fundraising committee to help assure its viability.
