Saskatchewan’s population growth is not making it easier on employers looking for talent.
The latest job vacancy report is out, showing three per cent of the positions created by employers went unfilled in July. That is among the higher rates in the nation and represents an increase over the previous couple of months. The latest population numbers showed Saskatchewan is adding about one thousand new residents a month. Even so, employers appear to generate positions at a more rapid pace making talent acquisition more challenging.
According to the report, western Canada offers the best opportunities for anyone in search of employment. The four western provinces recorded the highest vacancy rate meaning there are more openings awaiting candidates. All four had rates at three per cent or higher. The rest of the nation was under three per cent.
For Saskatchewan that translates into just over 16,000 positions that have been generated by employers but remain unfilled. That is 500 to 1,000 higher than we saw in May and June, a signal the Saskatchewan marketplace entered the summer on the upswing.
