REGINA, Sask. — CUPE 2419, which represents academic assistants at the University of Regina, says its members have ratified a new collective agreement with the university.
The union, which also includes teaching fellows, teaching assistants and research assistants enrolled as graduate or undergraduate students, voted in favour of the new agreement Oct. 6. According to the union, the new deal includes wage increases of four per cent in 2026, three per cent in 2027, three per cent in 2028 and two per cent in 2029.
Also included in the agreement is a letter of understanding addressing artificial intelligence and technological change, which the union says is “recognizing the importance of addressing emerging technologies in the workplace.” The bargaining committee also said it “secured several positive improvements to collective agreement language without making concessions.”
“At a time of economic uncertainty in the post-secondary sector, this agreement represents a positive outcome for our members,” said Muhammed Khosravani, CUPE 2419 president, in a statement.
“We were able to secure meaningful wage increases while also securing protections against AI and technological change into the future.”
