The numbers are changing and in a big way.
Investment or capital flows are key building blocks in any economy. Money flowing in from outside investors signals a few things. First of all, you’re a place to invest, which speaks to the local economic climate. Secondly, you have entrepreneurs with ideas and projects worthy of development. Third, it builds stuff which, in turn, employs construction people who are supported by a range of workers and businesses from lawyers to restaurant servers.
Saskatchewan is in the midst of a remarkable transformation on this front right now. And you can attribute it to some major developments.
Last year’s numbers from the provincial trade department pegged the value of projects in the province at $40 billion which attracted private sector double-digit capital inflow gains over the previous couple years.
Now, the value of projects – when you include things such as the AI data centre, a couple new uranium mines, expansion of the copper mine at Flin Flon and nuclear – is sitting in the $100 billion range, more than double what we saw just a couple years ago.
