The Cowessess First Nation will obtain approximately 322 hectares, or around 795 acres of surface land, along with the related Crown mineral rights, through the Cowessess Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) Settlement Agreement.
Cowessess is one of 36 Saskatchewan First Nations to strike a TLE agreement with Ottawa and the province, which administers the program through the Ministry of Government Relations.
The Treaty Land Entitlement Agreements provide the First Nations with entitlement money, to obtain land anywhere in Saskatchewan on a “willing buyer-willing seller” basis, and add it to their reserves
The TLE program began in 1992, and since then, Saskatchewan has transferred more acres to reserve status than any other province in the country.
